This Helmet is a real steel WWII German Style Infantry Helmet. The webbing inside was removed and duplicated in similar material to make the helmet wearable. The outside was treated to Underground Chopper Freehand Magic. The only request from the owner was that he wanted scary monsters painted on it. With that type of vague description of a paint scheme I was left to my own devices. The best way to ensure something comes out great is to first be enthusiastic about what you are doing. Toward those means I decided to paint one of my favorite monsters, Tolkien’s Balrog.

Dubbed Durin’s Bane, this demon of fire and shadow was awakened by the Dwarves when they delved too deeply into the Mines of Moria and was famously battled by the Wizard Gandalf at the bridge of Khaza-Dum. (I will admit it, I am a fantasy geek) For the sake of filling the helmet with detail I added wings to the Balrog with some cool little pterodactyl claws on them. If you are familiar with Tolkien’s book you will know that the Balrog had no wings but this is my little world and I like the wings. I hope you like the results.
