This bass guitar was purchased as kit from an online source. The owner assembled the kit himself and had us put a custom finish on it. The original plan was to apply just the "Crystal FX" pattern with the wineberry candy that you can see on the background of the guitar. We completed that and our customer loved it.  He took it home to begin assembly but returned a couple of days later with a long face.  He had accidentily drilled one of the wiring holes all the way through the back of the guitar, ruining the glass-like finish.  Instead of abandoning the finish and starting over I advised him that we could spot repair the blemish and cover it with a mural of his choice. We sent him home to think it over while we repaired the hole. A couple of days later he returned excited about having a portrait of the Tolkien charachter Gollum (Smeagol) painted on his guitar. So what you see here is the result of a mistake. Talk about turning lemons into lemonade!
