This is a mildly chopped 1975 sportster. The owner of the bike is very tall so the primary goal of the project was to allow him more legroom and a more comfortable riding position. The stock sportster had him pretty bunched up. To achieve this we stretched the down tubes three inches to achieve a little more rake and allow for the 6" over front end, and topped the front end off with a set of "Wild One Chubbys" beach bars. To get his knees straightened out we added a set of 2" extended forward controls.

Johny T had a very specific Idea of the paint he wanted. He brought in a magazine with a photo of a bike he saw that had the paint job that he had to have. He feels that we nailed it. One of the other objectives of this project was to get more fuel capacity on the bike, so we replaced the stock sporty tank with this Mid West stretched tank. The tank was designed for late model sportster and required some minor customizing to get it on this '75. With the fancy front end and sleek tank the old couch that was on it for a seat had to go.

He is now seated comfortably on his ride. The main feature of the bike is the 6" over Mid-West springer front end, on which hangs the Mid-West 80 spoke 21" wheel. We used a Jay-Brake 2 piston caliper and bracket for the front brakes. We tried to keep this one nice and simple there are no switches or electrics on the bars only the essentials. The front brakes are actuated by a nice BDL master cylinder that I was impressed with and was a great price. The front fender is a fiberglass piece, a replica of the steel one designed and built by us for the "Girth-Mobile"

The seat that is now on it is a swap meet acquisition.  The seat was an old ironhead seat with buttons pleats and rips, but it had a steel pan. The moldy old vinyl was discarded and the pan was re shaped to fit the new angle and profile of the modified back bone and we fabricated a simple new seat mount for the front. The foam needed no modification and we had D.A.'s custom auto top re uphoulster the seat with the textured charcoal gray vinyl and black vinyl (I love two tone seats).

Johny T was so pleased with the job we did customizing his bike the first time that he came back to us with more plans. This time the assignment was to install a CCI weld on hardtail, get a little more rubber in the back and get some disc brakes on the rear.

One of our custom built sissy bars holds up the heavily customized rear fender. The fender started out as a Jesse James Roller front fender that we widened 3/8" and trimmed to achieve the ultra low profile, "second skin" look over the tire.

Here is a nice look at the fender and the 150 mm rear tire that in installed in place of the original 110 mm tire. This also provides a good view of the paint and graphics that we were able to match perfectly now, 3 years after the original work.

In this shot you can see the improved profile created by the 4" lowering and 4" stretch characteristics that the hardtail added to the bike. Also evident here are the UGC seat and the new shotgun pipes.

The seat consists of one of our in-house built seat pans trimmed out with high density, water resistant foam and upholstered by our friends at DA's Custom Auto Top. Also notice the Big Twin horse shoe oil tank that we extensively modified for chain clearance and mounting on this sportster application.

Not many '75 Sporty's out there are "sportin" this look!
